Georgia Tech Data Breach Exposes 1.3 Million Users’ Personal Data

Unknown outside entity gained “unauthorized access” to Georgia Tech’s central database. Names, addresses, social security numbers, and date of birth of 1.3 million students, faculty and staff members exposed. University has launched a forensic investigation to determine the full extent of the breach. Georgia Tech has since patched the vulnerability and started notifying potentially impacted individuals via email. It’s unclear how long the unknown attacker(s) had access to the university database containing sensitive students and staff information.
