FTC Calls for Online Do-Not-Track List to Protect Privacy

FTC says a do-not-track list would allow Web users to opt out of online tracking. The FTC says the list could be implemented by the Internet industry or by Congress. Opponents say it could decrease effectiveness of online targeted, or behavioral, advertising. FTC report also calls on companies to adopt a “privacy by design” approach by building in privacy protections to everyday business practices.
