Fraudsters Use Necurs Botnet to Spread Scarab Ransomware

More than 12.5 million email accounts were hit with the infamous Necurs botnet, according to security researchers. Victims were targeted across the U.S., U.K., France, Germany and Australia around Nov. 23. Cybercriminals used simple phishing emails that pretend to come from a printer manufacturer such as Epson, HP, Canon or Lexmark. The message notes that the price of the ransom depends on the speed at which victims respond to the extortion. This puts victims in a difficult position, given the speed of the botnet attacks.”]
