Fraudster gets maximum jail time for news site DDoS extortion

Iranian-born U.S. citizen Andrew Rakhshan, previously convicted in Canada for fraud, was sentenced to five years in prison. He was found guilty of launching several distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks against news websites. He extorted other websites threatening to take them down, including the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the Sidney Morning Herald, Canada’s Metro News, and the official website of the Government of Canada (canada.ca) whose editors named him a “sophisticated international fraudster”””
