Fitz Jackson considers Cyber Security a major concern for Jamaica

The Jamaica Observer published an article on February 27, 2020, about Cyber Security concerns in Jamaica. Here is a summary just for you.

  • The Shadow Minister for National Security from the People’s National Party (PNP), Fitz Jackson highlighted that cybersecurity must be treated as a significant concern, especially for smaller states which might be more susceptible to cyberattacks.
  • This commentary came after a Commonwealth Parliamentary Association workshop on cybersecurity in London.
  • The workshop was in partnership with the University of Oxford for Commonwealth Parliamentarians to improve legislative capacity and scrutinize cybersecurity issues.
  • The discussion broached methods to diffuse money laundering and other criminal activities used in the cybersecurity realm.
  • Insightful ideas and possibilities for Jamaica were discussed by Jackson and James Stokley, the Deputy Director of the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency.
  • Additionally, talks surrounding the future partnership with the UK National Crime Agency to combat crime and assist crime-fighting strategies.
