FFIEC Warns Banks of Malware Attacks, Credential Theft

Federal Financial Institutions Examinations Council issues rare warning to banks on destructive new malware tools. Council also warns of targeted cyberattacks seeking to steal online login credentials used by employees to access critical systems and data. Last years cyberattack on JPMorgan Chase exposed the data of an estimated 83 million banking customers. FFIEC: Financial institutions faced a variety of risks from them, including financial loss, operational disruption, fraud and reputational damage. The council also issued a separate alert on credential theft: phishing, malvertising, watering hole and Web-based attacks.”]
