The White House has released cybersecurity guidance for securing the Maritime Transportation System. The MTS operates along 25,000 miles of coastal and inland waterways in the United States. This footprint contributes one quarter of all U.S. gross domestic product, or approximately $5.4 trillion, according to the Feds. The report advocates the implementation of standardized risk frameworks across the MTS, security requirements for suppliers and contractors, vulnerability audits, information-sharing policies and more. The private sector owns and operates the majority of port infrastructure.
