FBI Quickly Pulls Alert About EMV

Federal Bureau of Investigation issued a short-lived alert about fraud vulnerabilities linked to EMV chip cards. The alert was removed from the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center site on Oct. 9. It said consumers should use the PIN, instead of a signature, to verify the transaction. The now-deleted alert refueled the debate over whether EMV in the U.S. should be chip-and-PIN. The FBI has been criticized for misleading consumers about the availability of PINs.”]
