Fast-Food Chain Sonic Investigates Potential Card Breach

U.S. fast-food chain Sonic Drive-In said Tuesday it is investigating a potential payment card breach. Sonic has 3,500 franchises across the United States. The chain says it was alerted by its credit card processor last week to “unusual activity” on cards used at its restaurants. The alert follows a large, potentially related batch of stolen card data appearing for sale on a cybercrime “carder” marketplace. Many companies have service agreements with a variety of vendors that have network access to their clients.”]
