European Space Agency records leaked for amusement, attackers say

The European Space Agency has been hit by a weekend data breach. The breach exposed 8,107 names, email addresses, passwords, and contact details for ESA supporters and researchers. Of the passwords exposed, 39 percent were just three characters long. The second largest set of passwords – 1,314 (16%) were eight characters long, and based on their construction would have been easily cracked by most rule sets and dictionaries. The passwords were either poorly secured and easily reversed, or stored in clear text inside the database.”]
