Equifax says a web application flaw exposed 143 million consumer records to hackers. Names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and in some cases, driver’s license numbers were exposed. Most of those affected are U.S. consumers, but some “limited personal” information for U.K. and Canadian residents was also exposed. Equifax is offering free identity protection and credit file monitoring services for all affected consumers. The breach was discovered on July 29 and is “especially alarming and serious,” analyst says.”]
