U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency says it’s seeing a surge in targeted attacks using Emotet malware. The malware, which started life as a banking Trojan, started life five years ago as a dropper. Developers have added additional functionality to the malware, including making it a downloader and scraping victims’ PCs for contact information. Attackers then use the stolen data to craft socially engineered spam, according to security firm Cisco Talos.
