An attack on a database used by Emory Healthcare for patient appointments is the largest health data breach reported to federal regulators so far in 2017. The incident exposed data on almost 80,000 individuals, the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights’ “wall of shame” tally of health data breaches affecting 500 or more individuals. An independent security research center found a misconfigured MongoDB database containing what appeared to be patient records and other sensitive information.
