Email hackers steal $1.75 million from St. Ambrose Catholic Parish in Brunswick

Hackers tricked St. Ambrose Catholic Parish in Brunswick, Ohio, into wiring money to fraudulent bank account. FBI determined hackers tricked church into thinking construction firm had changed account. Church discovered theft April 17 after Marous Brothers Construction contacted church to ask why it hadn’t paid bills. Church determined only email accounts were hacked; no other information was compromised, Father Bob Stec says. Church will be hiring IT consultant to review its internet security, Stec said in letter to parishioners. The bills are related to the church’s Vision 2020 project, which aims to raise $4 million.”]
