DNS providers Dyn suffered a DDoS attack this morning that affected many of its major customers including Twitter, Spotify, Github and others. Services have been restored as of 9:36 a.m. EDT. The Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation said they were monitoring the attacks. Security experts have seen an increase in DDoS extortion attempts and many have been hoaxes. The likely source of the attack is likely to be an Internet of Things botnet known as Marai, according to security experts.
