Domain Typosquatters Target the 2020 Presidential Election

Cybersecurity firm Digital Shadows has analyzed over 550 typosquatting domains for the 2020 U.S. presidential election. With 19 Democratic candidates and 4 Republicans, there are plenty of targets for these types of attacks and domain squatters have clearly been busy. With a large playing field of candidates, scammers are capitalizing on searchers mistypeing a candidate’s name in order to bring them to sites they weren’t expecting. Digital Shadows recommends that brands and public identities should register similar domains, including misspelled domains, before others have a chance to do so.
