Cyber Attacks on Electrical Systems

Cyber Security Review published an article on June 2, 2019, about Cyber Attacks on Electrical Systems. Here’s a quick summary for you.

Individuals from the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority were among the participants in a discussion about the cyberattack risks on electric generating and distribution systems that WAPA has made known.

The Cyber-Physical Modeling and Simulation for Situational Awareness (CYMSA) project is an initiative under the Cybersecurity for Energy Delivery Systems (CEDS) initiative which is funded through the Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability (DOE-OE) program.

The mission is to help the energy sector by developing cybersecurity solutions for energy delivery systems. IT seeks to increase awareness and visibility of potential threats against the systems and defines how they can be protected. Additionally, the program aims to enhance the reliability and resilience of the nation’s energy infrastructure by lowering the risks of energy disruptions due to cyberattacks.

The CYMSA project is developing a cybersecurity situational awareness technology suite that detects adversarial manipulation of power grid components and communication networks.
