Cost of data breaches in Australia going up, criminal attacks to blame: Symantec

Symantec’s 2011 Cost of Data Breach Study has found that the average cost of a data breach reported by Australian organisations has maintained an upward trend for the third year in a row. Malicious or criminal attacks are the most common cause of data breaches in Australia. A common factor in local data breaches was also found to be lost or stolen devices, a common factor. The vendor foresees an increase in these types of attacks for the future, as more confidential information is going to find its way onto these devices.”]
