The UK’s Information Commissioners Office has fined Facebook $645,000 under the 1998 UK Data Protection Act. The maximum fine for a breach is 4% of Facebook’s global revenue. The fine is Facebook’s luck as the UK is in the process of Brexit, the ICO has not used the GDPR against the social media giant. Facebook says they are reviewing the decision and hope to audit the data they received from Cambridge Analytica. Facebook users will be rightly concerned that the company left their data far too vulnerable to being collected without their consent by developers working on behalf of companies like Cambridge-Analytica.”]
