Boston Police Turn to Text Messages to Fight Crime

Crime Stoppers program lets cell phone users send anonymous text-message crime tips to the citys anonymous tip line. Program is aimed at getting young people involved in reporting crime, police say. Text messaging is the preferred channel for many teens and those in the 18-to-24-year-old demographic. The effort is expected to cost about US$600,000 for the first six months, but about $500,000 of that includes airtime donated in kind by radio and television stations.”]
