Before Elections, US Cut Russian Trolls’ Internet Access

U.S. military curtailed internet access of infamous Russian trolling operation around mid-term elections last year. Operation targeted Internet Research Agency, based in St. Petersburg, Russia. Operation was led by Gen. Paul Nakasone, who leads Cyber Command, Washington Post reports. “They basically took the IRA offline. They shut’em down,” an anonymous source quoted by the Post says. The move was intended to allow for more aggressive offensive operations, the Post writes. It’s likely the IRA had far lower levels of security than the GRU, the Russian military intelligence agency connected with Fancy Bear hacking campaigns.”]
