Back to School? Be Careful of Malware Hiding As Textbooks

Kaspersky Lab researchers analyzed data gathered over the past academic year. English, math, literature, literature were the top most searched for, with 2,080, 1,213, and 870 downloads in total. Malware camouflaged as educational material was the most popular downloader, the WinLNK.gen and the Win32.Agent.ifx downloaders, and the Stalk worm are capable of dropping a huge range of malware strains on the victims’ computers including adware, cryptominers, spyware, banking Trojans, and, in the most serious cases, ransomware.
