Avast pulls CCleaner version that lacked privacy options

Avast-owned company CCleaner released a new version of the system cleaning tool. Users were outraged when the program’s Active Monitoring feature could not be disabled. Privacy options to control what data was collected had been disabled in the free version. Piriform has promised to make changes to the program, but then removed v5.45 and reverted back to the previous version. Avast says the collected data was completely anonymous, and collecting it could help identify bugs and identify pain points.”]
