The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) has filed a lawsuit against Facebook in a Federal Court. It alleges its systems allowed Cambridge Analytica to harvest user data from an app, violating Australian privacy laws. Facebook faces fines of up to A$1,700,000 per serious and/or repeated interference with privacy in the Australian lawsuit. The lawsuit follows a two-year investigation by the OAIC into Facebook data that may have been illegally harvested. Facebook says it has implemented meaningful changes during the course of the investigation. The US Federal Trade Commission fined Facebook a record US$5 billion in December 2019.”]
