ARM Expects First Cortex-A15 Devices in Late 2012

Smartphones and tablets will be the first devices to use ARM’s upcoming Cortex-A15 processor. The processor can run at speeds of up to 2.5GHz and stretch to 16 cores in certain configurations. Nvidia said it may use the design to develop CPU cores for PCs and servers that will be able to run Microsoft’s upcoming Windows OS. Smartphones in the future could replace PCs as primary computing devices, an ARM executive says. The company licenses its designs to chip makers such as Nvidia, Samsung, Texas Instruments and Qualcomm.”]
