Ark. Utility, N.J. Town Hit By Online Thieves

An Arkansas public water utility and a New Jersey town are the latest victims of an organized cyber crime gang that is stealing tens of millions of dollars from small to mid-sized organizations via online bank theft. An online service that sells fairly cheap access to compromised corporate machines creates a pay-to-play scenario for criminals seeking access to the networks of high-profile organizations. The creators of banking trojan programs in Brazil are using sophisticated block ciphers to encrypt their malware, making detection by anti-virus products more difficult.
