Are e-health records at fault for Ebola mistakes?

Thomas Eric Duncan, the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the U.S. has died at Texas Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. Hospital officials retracted a claim that a nurse failed to tell a doctor about Duncan’s recent trip to Liberia. The hospital’s EHR system did not communicate that information to the doctor, an expert says. EHR errors in patient care due to EHRs are “incredibly common,” according to a report released last year by the American College of Physicians. The problem is that physician and nursing documentation is separate and that an entry by a nurse might not be immediately obvious to an emergency room physician.”]
