Are ATMs, Online and Switches Too Connected?

ATMs and online banking sites went down for several hours between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Bloggers say top U.S. banks were conspiring to control the public’s access to cash. Security experts and analysts say the outage was not related to the time-zone change. The outage occurred at the switch level, security expert Andy Greenawalt says. One transaction fails, and it leads to a cascading effect that takes down several banks’ ATMs, online and switches, he says.”]
