Connecticut just became the sixth state to enact some form of law limiting use of credit report in making hiring or employment decisions. Maryland, Hawaii, Illinois, Oregon, and Washington all have laws on this issue. California has a similar proposed law that cleared the Assembly in May. Businesses conducting checks should review these and all other applicable laws to avoid potential fines and other potential penalties. The new laws may limit a companys ability to use the information as part of a back-ground check in connection with their information security efforts.”]
