Amazon Transparency Report Shows Few Requests For User Data

Amazon released its first transparency report on Friday. The company said it received 813 subpoenas, 25 search warrants, and 0-249 national security requests. Amazon did not provide much in the way of context for its data and lumped requests into two categories: requests from U.S. law enforcement agencies and requests from non-U.S.-based agencies. One interesting tidbit is that Amazon defines content and non-content information as “non-content”” Amazon says it will respond to requests without turning over data that is part of a user s account.”
