Akamai Says Subtlety Is Out, Brute Force Is In for Identity Theft

Cybercriminals are using account takeover (ATO) tactics to gain access to high-value sites. In one week, Akamai analyzed a financial services attack using more than 990,000 distinct IPs that checked over 427 million accounts. GitHub recently announced that there have been unauthorized attempts to access a large number of GitHub accounts using credentials stolen from other hacked sites. Credential stuffing works because accessing password/login combinations isnt hard for motivated cybercriminals. Users make it easier by reusing passwords, giving actors everything they need.”]
