A 3D-Printed, PIN-Protected Door Lock Won’t Protect Your Home But it Sure Looks Cool

Last year, Hasso-Plattner-Institut created a working 3D-printed door handle with no moving parts. Researchers have now created a PIN-protected lock that can be unlocked with a simple tap on the handle. The lock is made using a series of plastic springs that can trigger a chain reaction when someone tries to unlock the door. Researchers say 3D printers still have potential to make more than just trinkets, and that they’re not ready to give up on them just yet.”]
