Nigerian scam groups launched even more attacks in 2018 and used more complex types of malware to reach more victims. In 2018, average attacks grew to 28,227 per month with surges in March and April surpassing previous records. The most targeted industries were high-tech, Wholesale, Manufacturing, Education and Professional/Legal Services. The FBI said losses from the attacks almost doubled year-over-year in 2018 to reach $1.2 billion.
