Nearly 40% of consumers lost money to phone scams in 2020

75% of Americans surveyed were targeted by scammers over the past 12 months. In 2020, more than 50 billion spam calls were made to Americans and more than 157 billion in North America and Europe ‘ 58% of which were fraudulent. Businesses are relying on the voice call more than ever during the pandemic with voice traffic up 184% in 2020 compared to 2019, according to a Hiya report. The increase in voice traffic is being exploited by phone scammers, damaging trust in one of the most relied-upon communication channels.
