Yet Another Twist in Messy Aetna Privacy Breach Case

Aetna settled a 2014 class action lawsuit by allowing plan members to fill their HIV prescriptions in person at retail pharmacies. The privacy breach occurred during a 2017 mailing of letters to about 12,000 plan members in several states. Ironically, the members’ HIV drug information was potentially visible through that mailing’s envelopes, which had transparent windows. The insurer settled two lawsuits related to that mailing mishap in January. So far, 10 lawsuits have been filed against Whatley Kallas LLP and Consumer Watchdog.”]
