Google’s Chrome browser has spent years trying to identify the root causes of HTTPS certificate errors. Researchers from Google, Purdue University, the International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad, and the Leibniz University of Hanover Germany have spent the last several years looking at 2,000 error reports. The researchers say the company has taken multiple steps over the past several years to refine the warnings to better inform users.
