W3C Brazenly Ignores All Critics and Approves Browser DRM Standard

Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) will become an official standard for supporting encrypted multimedia content over the Internet. Many Internet experts have warned that EME has the potential to kill openness on the Internet, the very thing that made it successful in the first place. Many have accused the W3C of selling out users in exchange for financial involvement from deep-pocketed companies. Critics have two weeks to file an appeal; otherwise, EME will enter a streamlined process that will make it official standard by next year.
