Virtual Currency Kingpin Pleads Guilty

Arthur Budovsky, 42, created and ran Liberty Reserve, a Costa Rica-based virtual currency system. The site was shuttered by the U.S. Department of Justice in May 2013; authorities said it had laundered $6 billion in ill-gotten gains. As part of a plea agreement, Budovsky has admitted to laundering more than $250 million in criminal proceeds. He faces up to 20 years in prison; five men have now pleaded guilty to related charges in federal court.”]
