Verizon Wireless is in the crosshairs of privacy advocates challenging the company’s data-gathering activities. The company says it may legally collect customer data on app usage, geographical locations and Web browsing. The Electronic Frontier Foundation says Verizon violates the federal Wiretap Act in harvesting data. The ACLU has called on Congress to overhaul the 1986 Electronic Communications Privacy Act in order to clarify the definition of proper consent. Privacy issues will have to be addressed in the courts, at the state level or federal agencies, such as the Federal Communications Commission.”]
