Lawmakers are demanding to know why the Department of Veterans Affairs waited three weeks to disclose the theft of personal data of 26.5 million veterans. VA Secretary Jim Nicholson faced back-to-back hearings in the House and Senate on Thursday. President Bush gave Nicholson his endorsement with “full faith and confidence” Senator Leahy of Vermont called Nicholson “into the woodshed” and said he should change the VA’s leadership. The theft appeared to be a routine burglary at an agency home in Maryland.”]
