Update: Amid IRS’ Pullback, ID.me Offers Alternative Solution

Internal Revenue Service says it will pull back its plans to use facial recognition for authentication of new users of its online accounts. Concerns were also voiced around the lack of transparency in the agency’s contract with third-party vendor ID.me. The IRS said it was quickly pursuing short-term options that do not involve facial recognition. “The IRS takes taxpayer privacy and security seriously, and we understand the concerns that have been raised,” IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig says in an IRS statement.”]
