UK Takedown Disrupts Shylock Botnet

UK Takedown Disrupts Shylock Botnet used to infect more than 60,000 PCs worldwide. The financial malware is designed to intercept online banking transactions and steal victims’ credentials. Authorities say the operation has involved seizing command-and-control servers used to control infected PCs, as well as botnet-related domain names. No related arrests have been announced, but authorities say the malware has targeted the UK more than any other country, although the suspected developers are based elsewhere. The total number of PCs infected by the malware – just in the past year – is more than60,000, Symantec says. About 16 percent of all infections seen in the last year targeted U.S. banking customers.”]
