Twitter is rethinking its move to delete inactive accounts after a deluge of criticism about not giving an option to memorialize accounts of deceased people. The company made this decision as part of its effort to reduce the risk of old accounts being hacked but clearly did not cover all scenarios. Twitter apologized for the decision and promised to keep users posted of new developments on the matter. The Internet Archive has offered to help preserve the memory of the deceased by archiving their Twitter accounts.
