Twitter API Abused to Uncover User Identities

Fake accounts were abusing a legitimate function on Twitter to unmask the identity of users, Twitter said. The fake accounts were detected in a wide range of countries, including Iran, Israel, and Malaysia. The social media platform suspended any accounts it believes to have been exploiting the function. Twitter is the latest Twitter privacy issue to come to light after a security bug in the Android app was reported in December. In November, the Department of Justice charged two former Twitter employees of working with Saudi Arabia to snoop on political dissidents accounts.
