Trinidad and Tobago CIRT notices increase in cyber attacks

Loop Trinidad & Tobago published an article on October 28, 2020, about the increase in ransomware attacks. Here’s a summary:

  • The Trinidad and Tobago Cyber Security Incident Response Team (TT-CSIRT) has observed a significant increase in ransomware attacks targeting local organizations.
  • Ransomware is a type of malware that prevents users from accessing their systems or files until a ransom is paid.
  • Due to this, TT-CSIRT has urged all entities to adopt a heightened state of awareness, especially as Caribbean conglomerate Ansa McAl fell victim to this attack.
  • TT-CSIRT stated ransomware attacks can be initiated through multiple attack vectors including exploiting vulnerabilities and phishing emails. TT-CSIRT listed a host of countermeasures against ransomware and advised that all ransomware attacks should be reported to both them and the police.
