Trend Micro has signed an agreement to buy HP TippingPoint, which sells intrusion prevention and detection systems. The company plans to create a new network defense business unit, which it says will have more than 3,500 enterprise customers. Trend Micro’s appliances currently compete with AhnLab, Fidelis, FireEye, Fortinet, Cisco’s Sourcefire and Palo Alto Networks.
