Betsy Broder says the FTC still receives a fair flow of victim complaints about identity theft. The FTC has broad jurisdiction over many sectors of the economy, but does not have jurisdiction over banks, many federally-chartered credit unions and other financial institutions that are regulated by other federal regulators. Broder: We expect companies to use reasonable data security practices that are appropriate for the type of information that they collect and that they use.
