The biggest health data breaches added to the federal tally so far this year are classified as “hacking/IT incidents” These incidents include ransomware and phishing attacks, as well as misconfigured IT. Business associates were reported to be involved in more than a quarter of the major health data breach incidents. The largest breach, involving 974,000 individuals, exposed the protected health information of nearly 975,000 people for several weeks late last year.
