Snort is the global standard for describing and detecting network-based threats. Sourcefire was acquired by Cisco in 2013, and Snort became the foundation for Ciscos core NGFW and NGIPS products. Snort 3 entered beta last year, and integration work is underway to make it the future of the platform.
