TikTok Quietly Updated Its Privacy Policy to Collect Users’ Biometric Data

TikTok quietly revised its privacy policy in the U.S. to allow it to automatically collect biometric information from users’ content. The policy change went into effect on June 2. Users in the European Economic Area, U.K., Switzerland, and other geographies exempt from the changes. The changes come months after TikTok agreed to pay $92 million to settle a class-action lawsuit that alleged the app violated Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act by clandestinely capturing biometric and personal data from users without meeting the informed consent requirements of the state law.
